Hynestein is a personal study tool: a per-class AI tutor built around the files, assignments, and due dates a student already has access to. This page describes what the site and its browser extension actually do with your information, plainly.
The extension reads your school's learning platform (Schoology or Canvas) using the browser session you're already signed into \u2014 it never sees or handles your school password. It only runs when you open it on a class page you're signed in to, and only syncs when you press Sync. Nothing is sent anywhere except into your own Hynestein account: files, assignment descriptions, announcements, and due dates land in your class library so the tutor can answer questions about them.
If you link a Google Drive folder, Hynestein reads the files in that folder (and only that folder) to build your class library, using a connection you can disconnect at any time from Settings. Disconnecting stops future syncing; material already read stays in your library until you remove it yourself.
Your account (email, name), the class material you've connected, your conversations and quiz history with the tutor, and usage records used to enforce your monthly spending cap. A paired browser is remembered by a one-way hash of its access token, the same way a password would be \u2014 never in a form that could be used directly.
If you use the feedback button, what you type is read once to produce a short summary and is never stored in your own words \u2014 only that summary is kept.
Your questions and class material are sent to OpenRouter, which routes them to the Qwen models that generate the tutor's responses, under OpenRouter's own API terms. If you use voice features, audio may be processed by our speech provider. Nobody else \u2014 no advertisers, no data brokers, and nothing is sold.
A demo account works the same as a real one, with a smaller monthly usage budget. The same rules on this page apply to it.
