Hynestein is operated by Hynestein LLC, a Colorado limited liability company. It is a personal study tool: a per-class AI tutor built around the files, assignments, and due dates a student already has access to. This page describes what the site and its browser extension actually do with your information, plainly.
What the browser extension does
The extension reads your school's learning platform (Google Classroom, Schoology, or Canvas) using the browser session you're already signed into — it never sees or handles your school password. It syncs when you press Sync, or when you enable optional daily sync for that school site. Daily sync targets 12:01 a.m. in your account timezone and requires Chrome to be running with a signed-in school tab open. You can turn it off in the extension. Files, assignment descriptions, announcements, due dates, and available grades and missing work are imported into your Hynestein account. The extension does not submit or change schoolwork. School access varies, so some information may be unavailable.
What we store
Your account (email, name), the class material you've connected, your conversations and quiz history with the tutor, and usage records used to track Hynergy and enforce account usage limits. A paired browser is remembered by a one-way hash of its access token, the same way a password would be — never in a form that could be used directly.
Feedback
If you use the feedback button, what you type is read once to produce a short summary and is never stored in your own words — only that summary is kept.
Who else sees your data
Only the services Hynestein needs to run. Your questions and class material are sent to OpenRouter, which routes them to the Qwen models that generate the tutor's responses, under OpenRouter's own API terms. Clerk handles sign-in and receives your email, name, and sign-in details. Stripe processes payments and receives your billing details; Hynestein never sees or stores your full card number. Nobody else — no advertisers, no data brokers, and nothing is sold.
